AVID provides leadership skills, exposure to colleges, community involvement, and positive and fun peer interaction. It's a group of students who care about their goal of going to college and are willing to go the extra mile for success.
Students need to come to meetings on Fridays to room C-8 and participate in activities, fundraisers, and recruiting.
November 29th, AVID Club will take a trip to Santa Clara University and San Jose State for a College Tour.
GOALS TO INCREASE...
1. Increase the size of the program
2. Increase AVID strategies used throughout the school
3. Increase AVID's presence on campus
Foothill has been AVID certified since 2002. Our program has grown to include over 170 students. We have 5 amazing teachers - Mrs. Bordisso, Ms. Jim, Mr. Guest, Ms. Kelly, and Mrs. Mendoza. We have 7 sections of the AVID elective class and an AVID club with 40 active members.
"It's a cool experience. The field trips are what I like the most. It's important for students to visit colleges they might attend." -Mr. Gutierrez
"I love the family-like atmosphere of our AVID classroom. Our students are excellent at collaboration and peer tutoring, which are great skills." -Mrs. Mendoza
We look forward to hosting Shadow Days with our AVID friends at Foothill Ranch and Westside Charter at Frontier in December. The FHS students will speak to the 8th graders about their personal experiences in AVID and they will take 7th and 8th grade students to the 3rd period of the AVID 10th-11th grade schedules and observe AVID tutorials during 4th period.
