Set your calendars back! This year FAFSA season is starting a full three months earlier. While this new opening date will no doubt make for a busier fall, we are all hopeful that by starting earlier, more students can get more information about their financial aid eligibility in time to help inform which colleges they are applying to. Get Schooled has all kinds of resources to help students as they fill out the FAFSA.

  1.  We’re kicking off FAFSA season with our annual FAFSA twitter scholarship (usually in February, this year in October). Designed to spread awareness of FAFSA, students just have to tweet #FAFSA, tag @getschooled and they are entered to win a $1k scholarship.   The contest starts October 1 and runs through October 16.
  2. In partnership with Univision, we have a college text line where students can text COLLEGE or DINERO to 335577 to ask questions in English or Spanish about FAFSA or other college financial aid topics. Our staff of experts will text back an answer.
  3. The Get Schooled site has resources help students with every aspect of FAFSA completion, including: an overview of the FAFSA process, a directory of FAFSA workshops in their state, information on how to create an FSA ID,
  4. We also have information for DACA and undocumented students, who are unable to tap into federal aid. These include an overview of financial aid options for DACA or undocumented students and a list of scholarships for DACA or undocumented students.

According to the National College Access Network, students have an 85% chance of getting some kind of student financial aid. Working with all of you, we are hopeful a record breaking number of FAFSA applications are received this year!
